PROJECTS

In the national pilot project „MMAssist 2 – assis- tance systems in industrial production in the con- text of human-machine cooperation“, the focus is on the development of technologies which assist people in production in a sensible manner. As part of a consortium coordinated by PROFACTOR, the AIT is researching modular units with specific as- sistance functions, which are provided to other partners beyond the respective use case. Assistan- ce systems take over monotonous and stressful work and help to cope with the ever-increasing va- riety of variants.

The aim of the study EVAALuation is the develop- ment of an indicator set for measuring effects and efficiency increases through the use of AAL soluti- ons. This is intended to address efficiency and pro- of of efficacy in various dimensions (subjective, in- stitutional, social). The basis for the best possible operational applicability is to be created through close interaction with relevant stakeholder groups.

OUR APPROACH

The success factors of a product also result from the positive experi- ence or successful interaction between humans and technology. Hap- tics, gestures, language, eye movements – people consciously and above all unconsciously reveal very much about their feelings. These are ultimately the decisive parameters for whether innovation „works“ or not. That is why the spring of 2016 saw the opening of the AIT Tech- nology Experience Lab, a flexible „experimental space“ at the interface between humans and machines. The AIT Center for Technology Experi- ence conducts research into the acceptance of technology: Usability and experience studies, standardized quality of experience setups, ac- ceptance studies, context and experience simulations, and much more are conducted here under the controlled conditions of a laboratory. Psychologists, social scientists, designers and technicians already ac- company companies in the concept phase of the innovation process and are setting up research environments from which innovations can emerge. AIT Technology Experience allows an interpretation of the in- teractions between humans and technology.

STUDY SITUATIONS AND PROTOTYPING PROCESSES

In technology experience research, a practical approach is comple- mented with qualitative and quantitative research: Traditional, but also challenging special study situations and prototyping processes are combined with in-depth interviews, focus groups or participatory meth- ods. The question and goal of observation is not only how people deal with technology, but also which emotions (an essential parameter of the user experience) arise from it and why they arise. With the special combination of the practical approach and the scientifically founded ac- ceptance, user experience and quality of experience research, the AIT Center for Technology Experience offers a unique accompaniment of product innovations from conception to market launch. The aim is to optimally integrate future technologies into the contextual circum- stances and provide them with an appropriate maturity level of user experience from the outset.

WIDE RANGE OF TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE

Capturing experience research involves the development and exploita- tion of specific situation-dependent methods and tools. This serves to analyze and evaluate new approaches in the respective context. In expe- rience measurement, the AIT offers a comprehensive framework con- sisting of multi-level and multi-factorial approaches for measuring ex- perience – as an essential quality characteristic in different situations and in connection with various technological constraints.

Experience-oriented thinking in turn responds to the demand for scien- tific foresight, modelling and the conducting of appropriate experiments with regard to possible products and services with a focus on the users‘ perspective, taking into account the strategic dimensions of user-cen- tered design, experience-centered design, service design and design thinking. Through the use of future interface paradigms, AIT examines and exploits future interaction paradigms and building blocks of future interaction. Digitization is thus made tangible through the development of innovative interface prototypes which serve as a basis for research and experiments, or which can later be commercially exploited.
